As an accredited law enforcement agency, the Valdosta Police Department assures the community that it is operating to the highest extent of national law enforcement standards. Maintaining the highest standards and continually advancing our capabilities, the VPD provides a family friendly and safe environment throughout our city.
As Valdosta continues to grow as a regional center, the VPD continues to prepare and evolve into a regional response law enforcement agency. Working closely with local, state and national agencies, we have expanded our methods and practices, and capabilities to stay informed, and to provide increased security in the areas of drug enforcement and homeland security.
Additionally, the VPD is a nationally accredited department and in 2005, the VPD was among seven agencies throughout the country to be named a Flagship Agency at the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) conference in Boston. Being recognized as a Flagship Agency means the department is one whose policies and procedures are considered a model for other organizations to follow. Also during the conference, CALEA's 21-member commission reviewed the VPD's reaccredidation report and once again certified their national accreditation.
