Citizens are invited to take part in one of several Historical Valdosta Tours, planned for the City of Valdosta’s sesquicentennial year, on Saturday, July 24, beginning at 2 p.m. The tour bus will pick up participants in the parking lot across from the Lowndes County Historical Museum, at 305 West Central Avenue, to explore the Valdosta Historic District (which will include the Fairview Historical Neighborhood, the Crescent, Downtown Valdosta, the Patterson Street Historical District, Valdosta State University and Remerton Mill Village).
The historic tour is one of several bus tours scheduled every other month on the city’s sesquicentennial 2010 calendar of events. Each tour features different aspects of the city and are designed to give citizens an appreciation for the community’s heritage. Future tours dates are as follows: Saturday, Sept. 18; Saturday, Nov. 13; and Sunday, Dec. 5.
The Historical Valdosta Tours are sponsored by First Baptist Church, Guardian Bank, Sessions Sign Company, Valdosta Area Tours, the Lowndes County Museum and the City of Valdosta. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 and under. Call the Valdosta Tourism and Conference Center at (229) 245-0513 for reservations.
