I am pleased to be able to offer to you our interactive hometown website in our continuing effort to communicate effectively and efficiently with our citizens and visitors of our community. Our expansive website will take you on a tour of our government services while exemplifying our motto, "Quality Service by Quality People." While you are here I welcome you to take a few minutes to read my State of the City Address. The Address highlights many of our city’s progress during 2009, as well as outlines future goals.
Valdosta, Georgia is a wonderful city in which to live, work and visit! Our mild climate, progressive economy, and strategic location make Valdosta, also know as "The City Without Limits," an ideal environment for business, industry and commerce. Valdosta is also on our way to fast becoming a regionally recognized retirement community. Our city embraces retirees and is well rounded to provide the amenities that retiree's desire.
Valdosta, Georgia's tenth largest city, was recently designated as the premier city of the new Metropolitan Statistical Area and serves as a regional trade area and retail hub for eleven surrounding South Georgia and North Florida counties and more than 1.2 million people. The City of Valdosta's population is currently 44,500. Valdosta, South Georgia's fastest growing city, is home to Valdosta State University, South Georgia Medical Center, Moody Air Force Base, and the "winningest" high school football team in America, the Valdosta Wildcats. Our industrial and business communities, churches, and numerous civic organizations work in harmony with the city to ensure that the needs of our citizens are met.
Valdosta is operated under a Council/Manager form of government with an elected Mayor and seven elected council members. Mayor/Council meeting schedules are located elsewhere in our website. Valdosta relies on our city manager for all the daily operational functions while the Mayor/Council is charged with setting policy. We are all accessible and we encourage your participation in the government process. We can achieve more collectively than individually.
