2009 Water Quality Report
June 2010 Outdoor Water Use Information
Welcome
The Utilities Department is responsible for providing water, sewer, and stormwater management services to all customers within the corporate limits of the City of Valdosta and some areas immediately adjacent to the City. The Department provides services to over 19,000 water customers, 17,700 sewer customers, and 17,800 stormwater customers.
The Department has over 100 employees with a professional staff of 40 certified water and/or wastewater operators meeting the requirements of the Georgia State Board of Examiners for Water and Wastewater. A licensed environmental engineer heads its engineering section. In general, the management of the Department is responsible for planning of growth, providing availability of service information for new development, plan review, and much more.
The administration division is responsible for correspondence for all divisions within the Department, clerical functions, all incoming calls, dispatching of calls and work orders, record keeping, accounting, processing of orders for new service installation, etc.
In 1999, the City adopted a comprehensive master plan for its water and sewer systems to provide for the improvement of the existing facilities and to plan for the growth of the City. The plan was coordinated with the Lowndes County plan and covers a large service area surrounding the existing City. It allows for orderly growth of necessary facilities for the City over the next 20 years.
