Biography
John L. Whitehead, III is the Deputy City Manager for Operations for the City of Valdosta, a position he has held since August 2007. Previous to this appointment, he served as the Public Works Director beginning in August 2005. The Public Works Department consists of the street right-of-way maintenance, the motor pool, automotive maintenance center, landfills and the sanitation division.
John came to the city with over 15 years of experience in civil engineering for water, wastewater, public infrastructure, and transportation. He has specialized in public works planning and maintenance, systems management and construction planning and management. John has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Miami. He is currently completing his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Miami and hopes to complete his studies Fall of 2008.
John presently serves on the Leadership Lowndes board of directors, is a member of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators, and serves on the Rotary International (Sunshine Club) Board of Directors.
