June 14-18   The 108 youth involved in the Southern Hospitality Group Workcamp will be busy hammering and painting during the week, as 18 local homes get a facelift as a result of their labor of love. These youth have come from as far away as Alaska to make a difference in our community. June 14   Motorists traveling Gornto Road Monday, may expect some congestion between Oak Street and Mack Drive, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., as crews move a gang switch. Signs and cones have been posted, and flagmen will be in place to keep traffic moving in both directions. However, motorists are urged to seek alternate routes until the work can be completed. June 15  Today is the last day to submit your recipes to be included in the Valdosta: Still Cookin’ after 150 Years. This sesquicentennial cookbook will be available for sale in the fall in time for the holidays. Be a part of this sesquicentennial keepsake by sharing your favorite recipes with future generations. June 15  The Central Valdosta Development Authority (CVDA) will meet in the City Hall Annex Multi-Purpose Room (at 300 N. Lee Street) at 5 p.m. The Central Valdosta Development Authority (CVDA) manages the process of making Downtown Valdosta the governmental, cultural, and economic center of the Greater Lowndes County area by involving businesses, property owners, government, churches, and the entire community. June 19  Citizens can get valuable homeowner information at the Homebuyer Education Workshop, on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Habitat for Humanity facility, at 2010 E. Cypress Street. The event, sponsored by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, the City of Valdosta, and the Valdosta-Lowndes County Habitat for Humanity, is free and includes lunch.
