The Planning and Zoning Division works on a daily basis with the development community and citizens at-large to ensure quality growth and long range planning in order to preserve the City’s unique quality of life. The division strives to educate the community on the importance of comprehensive planning while effectively implementing the City of Valdosta's Land Development Regulations.
Here you will find the division's latest developments.
New LDR Text Amendments
The City of Valdosta Land Development Regulations are updated on a continual basis. The latest amendments approved by City Council were on April 7, 2016. All the individual chapters have been updated on our website along with the entire LDR link. Contact our office if you have any questions.
Community Planning Month
The city celebrates National Community Planning Month every October as promoted by the American Planning Association (APA). Community events are planned throughout the month to showcase Valdosta's planning efforts related to the annual theme. Stay tuned for further updates, or check out our events tab for Community Planning Month.
May is Historic Preservation Month
Created by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 1971 (first as National Preservation Week and then later National Preservation Month), this national observance in May each year provides a platform for communities across our country to honor their past and help build their future by celebrating the preservation of our cultural and built heritage. The 2016 theme for this observance is This. Place. Matters. Valdosta’s observation of Historic Preservation Month brings deserved attention to the significant and irreplaceable places in our community that make Valdosta a unique place for citizens and visitors to enjoy. The nomination form, as well as full Valdosta HPA rules and information, can be found on the HPA application.
Valdosta Preservation Awards
The Harold M. Bennett Lifetime Achievement Award and other preservation awards are presented each May during Historic Preservation Month. Nominations for this year's awards are now being accepted through April 25, 2016, with presentations being made by City Council at their meeting on May 19, 2016.
