Eclipse Over Valdosta- Lowndes County, Aug. 21

While our area is not in the path of totality, local residents will able to view a portion of the eclipse on Aug. 21, beginning at about 1:11 p.m., when the moon is expected to obscure approximately 89% of the sun.  View the GEMA situational awareness document provided by Lowndes County Emergency Management Director Ashley Tye.  According to Tye, the main safety issue is to make sure that you don’t look directly at the eclipsed sun without wearing approved solar viewing glasses.  A list of reputable companies that sell solar viewing glasses meeting the required safety standards is included in the attachment.
