City of Valdosta COVID-19 Update - April 3

The City of Valdosta is committed to bringing you the resources necessary to assist you during the growing COVID-19 Pandemic that is impacting our world. City of Valdosta Leaders are actively monitoring the COVID-19 and working closely with the South Health District, Lowndes County Emergency Management Department and other local agency partners.

CITY OPERATIONS

The current Statewide Shelter in Place Order by Governor Kemp struck down local orders by cities and counties while it is in place. City staff are not currently requested by the State to enforce the new State Order, but will be continuing to monitor and educate as it relates to social distancing and gatherings of 10 or more.

During the next week, City Offices continue to have limited staff to protect our employees. City buildings will remain closed to the public. Our staff will respond to calls, emails and web-applications. You may call City Hall at 229-259-3500 for additional assistance.

PAYMENTS

Until further notice, the City of Valdosta Customer Service Drive-Thru can only be accessed through McKey Street off Hill Avenue and Central Avenue. The Lee Street entrance has been closed.

Customers may pay their utility bills online, pay by phone, or utilize the drive up drop box in the parking lot across from City Hall. The City will not disconnect services due to the COVID19 Pandemic. The lobby of the Customer Service Department is closed we ask citizens to pay at the drive through, over the phone, at the drop box in Customer Service parking lot, or through email/website. Customer Service has placed signs on their doors asking customers to use the drive thru. Customer Service can be reached by phone at 229-259-3510 or email utilitybill@valdostacity.com.

Sign-ups and Disconnects are being handled through the drive-thru 1 or can be sent to our email utilitybill@valdostacity.com.  We are asking the customer to use drive thru 1 to pick-up information, ask questions, and fill out sign-up or disconnect forms.  Once filled out; park in the parking lot and we will call you once the account has been set up to pay.

Drive-thru 2 is for payments only. We are taking credit cards and not requiring the bill for payments.

SANITATION SERVICES

The City of Valdosta is temporarily suspending recycling services during the COVID-19 pandemic effective Friday, April 3. The service will be suspended until further notice. This is a temporary situation for our recycling program as our staff is limited. If you are able to store your recyclables for the time being, please do so. We will resume recycling operations as soon as we can.

During this time, garbage pick-up will continue as scheduled. If you have any questions in regards to your sanitation schedule, please call Public Works at 229-259-3588

PUBLIC SAFETY

The City Police Department and Fire Department will continue to operate as normal. If you have a life-threatening emergency, please call 911.  Do not call 911 with questions related to COVID-19.  Governor Kemp has requested assistance in advertising a state-wide hotline (1-844-442-2681), for those seeking more information.  Call your healthcare provider FIRST if you have any concerns over your health and possible exposure to COVID-19. We ask that residents please be aware that this situation is developing rapidly.  Public Safety personnel will continue to monitor this situation closely and provide updates if anything changes.  For up-to-date information regarding health and safety protocols, please visit www.southhealthdistrict.com.

MUNICIPAL COURT

If you have a court date scheduled in the Municipal Court for the City of Valdosta in the month of April, your court date will be continued. You will receive a letter of continuance forwarded to the address listed on your citation and/or summons.

You may pay any citation and/or summons prior to your court date in person at the Valdosta Police Department located at 500 N. Toombs St., Valdosta, GA. You may pay your citation and/or summons online at here or call 1-800-701-8560.

If you pay your citation and/or summons before your court date, you are NOT required to appear in court unless you are charged with DUI, Shoplifting or Possession of Marijuana.
