Blood Toxicology

The Valdosta-Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory added Toxicology to the laboratory’s Scope of Accreditation by ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) by fulfilling the requirements ISO/IEC 17025 and ANAB Forensic Testing & Calibration AR 3125 in the field of Forensic Testing.  A blood alcohol analysis is performed when a person is suspected of Driving Under the Influence (DUI).

In June 2019, both the blood testing method and criminalists were certified through the state of Georgia to perform the blood analysis testing. Previously, the Valdosta Police Department sent all blood testing kits to the GBI Crime Lab. Most of the equipment needed to process these tests were purchased using grant funding secured by the Crime Lab.

Chemists in the Toxicology Discipline analyze evidence submitted by law enforcement agencies in the investigation of DUI (driving under the influence). Toxicology services include analysis of blood specimens for the presence and concentration of alcohol. The Chemists provide analytical findings in a written report for each case. The Toxicology Chemists may provide expert testimony for the court system.
