Contractor Qualifications

All General and Residential Contractors who engage in the business of construction within the City of Valdosta, Hahira, Lake Park, Dasher and unincorporated areas of Lowndes County must have a valid and current state license issued by the Georgia Secretary of State's office. Also, a local business license will be required within the jurisdiction of which work will be performed before applying for a building permit. To see if a contractor is licensed, search for professional licensees on the state of Georgia website. Existing license contractors can print a pocket card.

Contractor Registration

All contractors and sub-contractors are required to register as a contractor with the City of Valdosta Business License Office.

Documents required for registration

Email all documents to our office, or fax them to 229-333-1865.

1) A copy of the Contractors State License Card (Contractors and Sub-Contractors).
2) Copy of Business License for jurisdiction work is conducted in.

Local Licensing

Each contractor, whether a Contractor, Sub-contractor, or Specialty Trade Contractor must have a current City of Valdosta/Lowndes County/City of Hahira/City of Lake Park business license depending on the jurisdiction where the work is performed.

Sub-Contractor Requirements

All Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, and Auto Sprinkler subcontractors must hold a current State of Georgia professional license for their field.

Specialty Trade Contractors

Are limited to non-structural work such as roofing, siding and cornice work, pools, signs, replacement of doors and windows, trim, concrete work, drywall, cabinets, etc. Permits are required for almost all of this type work.
