The laboratory partners with the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) and uses an Integrated Ballistic Identification System (IBIS) Trax-HD3D to acquire digital images of fired cartridge cases from evidence from a crime scene or from test fires of crime guns. This network allows for the discovery of links between firearm-related crimes more quickly and may even help to solve unsolved violent crimes.
