Valdosta City Employees and Community Participate in Red Cross Holidays for Heroes Program

On December 6, 2019, the City of Valdosta Mayor John Gayle presented the Red Cross of South Georgia more than 150 signed Christmas Cards for its ‘Holidays for Heroes’ Program.

While many Georgians will celebrate with loved ones during the holiday season, some will be missing family members who are deployed or convalescing in veterans’ medical facilities, nursing homes and military hospitals.

The American Red Cross Holidays for Heroes program is a way for the public to send words of inspiration, thanks and encouragement to our military heroes.

Since 2006, with the help of the public, the American Red Cross has collected millions cards for members of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families during the holiday season.

“Each year, we are happy to present the Red Cross with these cards signed by our employees and citizens in our community at the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. For people that are deployed across the world, they get a little reminder that their community back in Valdosta cares about them and wishes them the best during the holiday season while they’re fighting for our freedom,” said Mayor John Gayle.
