Valdosta Tree Giveaway
The Valdosta Tree Commission will host a tree distribution/giveaway made possible through an Urban & Community Forestry (UCF) Program grant. Funding is provided by the Georgia Tree Council, through the Georgia Forestry Commission and the U.S. Forest Service.
By partnering with state agencies and local community tree groups, the UCF program invests in communities from the ground up—supporting more than 140 million acres of urban and community forest across the United States. Forty percent (40%) of the program’s investment supports disadvantaged communities and areas experiencing low tree canopy coverage and environmental justice concerns.
A total of 650 trees will be available in 5-gallon containers and will include a variety of species and mature sizes, including over-story, mid-story, and understory trees. The Tree Commission will provide educational materials such as flyers with species information, links to instructional planting videos, and other tree care resources for homeowners and residents.
Quantities are limited. Available 5-gallon tree species include
- Florida Flame Maple
- River Birch
- Eastern Redbud
- Muskogee Crape Myrtle
- Natchez Crape Myrtle
- Little Gem Magnolia
- Nellie R. Stevens Holly
- Jane Magnolia
- Nuttal Oak
- Live Oak
