City of Valdosta Announces December Employee of the Month
The City of Valdosta recognized Detective Ellen Mulvaney of the Valdosta Police Department as the December Employee of the Month during the regular City Council meeting held on Thursday, January 8, 2026.
Detective Mulvaney was presented with the honor by Scott James Matheson, Mayor of Valdosta, alongside Valdosta Police Department Chief Leslie Manahan.
Detective Mulvaney was recognized for her exceptional dedication and compassion while handling a forgery case involving an elderly female victim who believed she was being scammed by Georgia Power. The victim had received multiple bills marked as unpaid, despite being enrolled in automatic payments, and ultimately had her power disconnected. Due to her age, the victim struggled to navigate online payment systems and was unable to reach a customer service representative for assistance, leading her to fear she was the target of a scam.
Through thorough research and persistent follow-up, Detective Mulvaney determined that the issue stemmed from automatic payments being charged to an outdated account. Understanding the victim’s limitations and distress, Detective Mulvaney went above and beyond her investigative duties, making calls, explaining the situation clearly, and ensuring the issue was resolved so the victim’s electricity could be restored.
“Detective Mulvaney exemplifies what it means to serve with integrity, patience, and compassion,” said Mayor Matheson. “Her actions reflect the City of Valdosta’s commitment to protecting and supporting our most vulnerable residents.”
Chief Manahan added, “Detective Mulvaney’s dedication demonstrates the heart of policing. She didn’t stop at identifying the problem, she made sure the resident was truly helped. We are proud of her professionalism and care for the community.”
The City of Valdosta congratulates Detective Ellen Mulvaney on this well-deserved recognition and thanks her for her outstanding service to the Valdosta community.
