City Announces 14 Opportunities to Serve the Community

Citizens who seek a rewarding public service role in the community are encouraged to apply for the 14 opportunities available on the city's boards, commissions, authorities, or advisory committees. 

The Valdosta City Council will vote on the new appointments at the November 5, 2020, Regular City Council meeting to fill the following slots:

  • Valdosta Tree Commission (4) *
  • Valdosta Housing Authority (1) **
  • Valdosta Housing Board of Adjustments & Appeals (4) *
  • Valdosta-Lowndes County Conference Center & Tourism Authority (2) ***
  • Central Valdosta Development Authority/Downtown Development Authority (3)
*One of these appointments will be to fill an unexpired term.
** The Mayor will make this appointment.
*** One of these slots is for a City Council appointee.

"These appointments are designed to give citizens a voice in their local government and provide a means of influencing decisions that shape the quality of life for the residents in our community," said Valdosta Mayor Scott James Matheson. "Participation on one of these organizations is one of the most effective steps a citizen can take in becoming an active voice in local government."

Applicants must review the Membership Requirements and Code of Ethics Booklet, complete a General Board Application, and sign a Code of Ethics form. These documents are available for download at www.valdostacity.com, by clicking the "Boards & Commissions" tab from the "Government" drop-down menu.

The closing date for submitting the General Board Application and Code of Ethics form to the City Clerk is Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at 5:00 p.m
