Valdosta Police Department Launches Second Annual S.A.Y.V.E. Initiative to Empower Local Teens

The Valdosta Police Department (VPD) is proud to announce the second year of the Stand Against Youth Violence Education (S.A.Y.V.E.) initiative, a program designed to equip teenagers with the knowledge and skills necessary to address critical issues such as bullying, gang activity, substance abuse, firearm safety, and the value of mentorship. This impactful week-long program will take place from July 7th to July 11th, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the City Hall Annex Multipurpose Room,  located at 300 N. Lee St, Valdosta, GA 31601.

Open to teens aged 13 to 16, the S.A.Y.V.E. initiative features engaging sessions led by experienced VPD officers and local community partners. Topics will include conflict resolution, positive decision-making, peer interaction, and community responsibility—all tailored to help young people grow into confident, informed individuals.

Daily breakfast and lunch will be provided, ensuring participants are well-nourished and ready to engage. The program also fosters connection between local youth and VPD officers, encouraging mentorship and trust between law enforcement and the community.

"After the success of our first year, we’re proud to continue the S.A.Y.V.E. initiative," said Chief Leslie Manahan. "This program represents more than just education—it’s an investment in the future of our youth and our city. We’re committed to giving young people the tools they need to make safe, informed choices and to know they’re supported every step of the way."

Registration is now open. Interested participants can request an application by emailing Officer Randall Hancock at rhancock@valdostacity.com or Investigator Carlton Harrell at charrell@valdostacity.com.

To support participation, the City of Valdosta is again offering free rides through Valdosta On-Demand for those needing transportation assistance.
