City of Valdosta Awarded $2 Million OneGeorgia Hurricane Disaster Recovery Grant

VALDOSTA, GA— The City of Valdosta has been awarded $2,000,000 in grant funding from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) through the OneGeorgia (OGA) Hurricane Disaster Relief Effort for Fiscal Year 2026.

The grant, titled HDR-  Stormwater and Drainage System Improvements, will support critical upgrades to Valdosta’s stormwater and drainage infrastructure. These improvements are designed to strengthen the city’s resilience to severe weather events, reduce flooding risks, and protect neighborhoods, roadways, and public assets impacted by hurricanes and heavy rainfall.

The funding was approved as a direct award under the OneGeorgia Hurricane Disaster Recovery program, which assists communities affected by recent storm events by investing in long-term infrastructure solutions. According to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, the funds are intended to help communities recover and prepare for future disasters by improving essential systems.

With this investment, the City of Valdosta will be able to advance priority stormwater projects aimed at improving drainage capacity, system reliability, and overall public safety. The project will also help reduce maintenance challenges and enhance the city’s ability to respond to future storm events.

City officials expressed appreciation to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and the OneGeorgia Authority for recognizing Valdosta’s needs and supporting infrastructure improvements that will benefit residents for years to come.
