Valdosta Fire Department to Host 2nd Annual Camp Blaze for Young Ladies

The Valdosta Fire Department is preparing to welcome young women from across the community for the 2nd Annual Camp Blaze, a three-day leadership and fire service experience designed for girls ages 13-18.

Camp Blaze will take place June 2-4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Drop off will begin as early as 7:30 a.m., and participants must be picked up no later than 5:30 p.m.

The camp will provide participants with an inside look at the fire service through hands-on training, group activities, guest speakers, team-building opportunities, and interactive learning experiences led by firefighters and public safety professionals.

Participants will also receive daily meals, a free camp t-shirt, and recognition during a special awards ceremony at the conclusion of camp.

Fire Chief Marcus Haynes said Camp Blaze is about more than introducing young ladies to the fire service, it is about building confidence, leadership, and lifelong skills.

“Camp Blaze gives young women the opportunity to challenge themselves, learn new skills, and see firsthand the many career paths available within public safety,” said Chief Haynes. “We want participants to leave inspired, empowered, and confident in their abilities both personally and professionally.”

Public Life & Fire Safety Educator Tessa Carder said the camp continues to grow because of the positive impact it has on participants.

“Camp Blaze creates an environment where young ladies can step outside of their comfort zones, build friendships, and discover strengths they may not have realized they had,” said Carder. “Our goal is to encourage leadership, teamwork, and self-confidence while giving them a memorable and fun experience.”

Camp Blaze is open to young ladies ages 13-18. Space may be limited.
