Mayor for a Day
The week kicks off with the introduction of a new initiative, Mayor for a Day, recognizing one outstanding local senior for their leadership and potential. This year’s honoree is Valdosta High School senior and baseball player Braeden Lampkin.
The selected student will enjoy lunch with Mayor Scott James Matheson, tour a local fire station, visit the police department, and explore the City’s Traffic Management Center. The student will also receive a commemorative gift in remembrance of this special day of leadership and service.

School Appreciation Surprise
The Valdosta Police Department and Valdosta Fire Department will surprise two local schools with a special token of appreciation. This initiative recognizes educators and staff for their hard work and their commitment to empowering the future leaders of our community.

Judge vs. Teens Basketball Showdown & The Great American Earth Day Clean Up
Judge Jeremy Baker will take to the court for a friendly but competitive round of basketball with teens from the Boys and Girls Club of Valdosta Teen Center. The matchup promises bragging rights, laughter, and a powerful reminder of the importance of mentorship and positive engagement.
In addition, join the City of Valdosta for the 2026 Great American Earth Day Clean Up from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. More details to come.

Touch-A-Truck at the Max, Human Resources Surprise for Employees
The City’s Public Works and Stormwater teams will host students from J.L. Lomax Elementary School for an interactive Touch-A-Truck experience. Students will get an up-close look at City vehicles and equipment that help keep Valdosta running smoothly. Kona Ice will be on-site to add a cool treat to the day’s excitement.
In addition, the City’s Human Resources Department will host a special surprise for City of Valdosta employees in recognition of their continued dedication and service to the community.

Paint in the Park
Georgia Cities Week concludes with Neighborhood Development’s annual Paint in the Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Turner Center Art Park located at 527 N Patterson St, Valdosta, GA 31601. Art supplies will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, inviting families and residents to express their creativity while celebrating community pride!
