Overview
- Enforces safe work procedures; ensures the establishment of safe work zones.
- Trains, assigns, directs, schedules, supervises, evaluates and disciplines the work of personnel.
- Meets with citizens to discuss their needs or concerns; develops and implements plans to resolve citizen issues.
- Conducts pavement evaluations; determines condition of streets and prioritizes replacement.
- Estimates materials needed to completed repairs.
- Coordinates and supervises street repair activities.
- Operates a variety of tools and equipment.
- Responds to after-hours and weather-related emergencies.
- Directs the maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
- Prepares required reports.
- Maintains inventory of parts and supplies; reorders as needed.
- Assists with special city events.
- Performs related duties.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of city personnel policies.
- Knowledge of street construction and maintenance principles.
- Knowledge of work safety principles and practices.
- Knowledge of city purchasing policies.
- Knowledge of street maintenance equipment operation and maintenance principles.
- Skill in the use of construction equipment, including asphalt spreader, backhoe, etc.
- Skill in reading plans and blueprints.
- Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
- Skill in prioritizing and planning.
- Skill in interpersonal relations.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
