Overview

  • Enforces safe work procedures; ensures the establishment of safe work zones.
  • Trains, assigns, directs, schedules, supervises, evaluates and disciplines the work of personnel.
  • Meets with citizens to discuss their needs or concerns; develops and implements plans to resolve citizen issues.
  • Conducts pavement evaluations; determines condition of streets and prioritizes replacement.
  • Estimates materials needed to completed repairs.
  • Coordinates and supervises street repair activities.
  • Operates a variety of tools and equipment.
  • Responds to after-hours and weather-related emergencies.
  • Directs the maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • Prepares required reports.
  • Maintains inventory of parts and supplies; reorders as needed.
  • Assists with special city events.
  • Performs related duties.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of city personnel policies.
  • Knowledge of street construction and maintenance principles.
  • Knowledge of work safety principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of city purchasing policies.
  • Knowledge of street maintenance equipment operation and maintenance principles.
  • Skill in the use of construction equipment, including asphalt spreader, backhoe, etc.
  • Skill in reading plans and blueprints.
  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Skill in prioritizing and planning.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
  • Skill in oral and written communication. 
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
