City of Valdosta Appoints Al Crace as Interim City Manager

The City of Valdosta announces the appointment of Al Crace as Interim City Manager, effective Monday, November 10.  Crace will oversee day-to-day operations of municipal departments, advance Council priorities, and ensure continuity of services while the City conducts a search for a permanent City Manager.

“Al brings deep municipal leadership experience and a steady hand to guide our organization during this transition,” said Mayor Scott James Matheson. “His focus on customer service, operational excellence, and collaboration with our community partners will keep Valdosta moving forward.”

As Interim City Manager, Crace will direct city administration, manage the annual budget process, and work closely with the Mayor and City Council to implement strategic initiatives that support public safety, infrastructure, economic development, and quality of life. He will also engage regularly with staff, residents, and stakeholders to maintain transparent communication and responsive service.

The City Council will outline the next steps and timeline for a comprehensive executive search for the permanent City Manager. Additional details will be shared as they become available.
